Speech by H.E. Dr. Surasri Kidtimonton, Secretary-General of ONWR of Thailand
First and foremost, on behalf of the Thai government, Office of the National Water Resources, permit me to take this opportunity to express our sincere extend gratitude to the government of the People's Republic of China for organizing the 2nd Mekong-Lancang Water Resources Cooperation Forum. It will strengthen cooperation and comprehensive technical exchanges among member countries as well as the international organization on a wide range of topics.
That will provide an opportunity for policy dialogue among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to tackle one of the world's most striking and challenging issues today, and I am delighted to be here as part of this event to share Thailand’s perspective on this issue.
Ladies and Gentlemen,Since the establishment of the Mekong-Lancang cooperation 5 years ago, we have seen a better direction of cooperation and relationship from the upper Mekong to the lower Mekong river basins, and we have developed strong relationships among 6 countries through mutual activities such as training, workshops, and Forum as well.
On this occasion, the Thai government and the people who live along the Mekong River express our heartfelt appreciation to the government of the People's Republic of China, through its Ministry of Water Resources and the LMC Water Center, for providing Jinhhong and Manun data throughout the year, as well as all notification letters that are beneficial to the life of Lower Mekong residents, such as fishermen and cultural festivals. it is also useful for planning for the Mekong river's impact mitigation.
As the coming up on the Joint Study between LMC water center and MRCS to research and on the Changing Pattern of Hydrological Conditions of the Lancang - Mekong River Basin and Adaption Strategies, it may be used to clarify the evidence of climate change or water management.
Lastly, we expect this Forum will share knowledge about emerging technologies and trends, as well as the implications on business in the region. The structured programs are also included to assist governments, businesses, and other stakeholders within and across the region in efficiently leveraging any data-sharing.
Thank you.
