On April 27, 2021 Diplomats from Mekong countries in China and Chinese representatives visited Nuozhadu Hydropower plant. Nuozhadu power plant is the fifth of eight cascades in the cascade planning of the middle and lower reaches of Lancang River. It is the backbone power plant of the national implementation of the western development strategy, the 12th Five Year Plan and West-to-East Power Transmission. It is the largest scale and single investment project in Yunnan Province, and also the largest power plant of Huaneng Group. The installed capacity of the power plant is 5850MW (9 × 650 MW), and the annual average power generation is 23.912 billion KWh.
