Visiting Jinghong Hydropower Plant

On April 28, 2021, Diplomats from the Mekong countries in China and Chinese representatives visited the Jinghong Hydropower Plant. Jinghong Hydropower Station is located in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, about 5 kilometers from Jinghong City, with a total installed capacity of 1,750 MW. The dam is 108 meters high and 705 meters long at the top. The construction of the power station began in July 2003 and was completed in May 2009. The navigation facility of Jinghong Hydropower Station is a hydraulic ship lift with a tonnage of 300 tons, a max lifting height of 66.86 meters and a max lifting weight of 2,920 tons. It is the largest navigation facility in the Lancang-Mekong River basin. It adopts the world's first and China's original hydraulic lift form, and fully owns China's independent intellectual property rights. The ship-lift has its own unique advantages in terms of operation safety, reliability and adaptability to the rapid change of downstream water level. It has a broad application prospect in mountainous river regions. It is a major technological innovation and is a breakthrough in the field of high dam navigation in the world. Hydroelectric ship lift has no precedent at home and abroad. Its related technical achievements have won the first prize of China Hydroelectric Science and Technology, the second prize of National Technical Invention and other national awards. In January 2020, it was granted the first international PCT patent.
