Ms.Amphaphone Kimanivong: Home Construction With Chinese Experience
I am AMPHAPHONE KIMANIVONG (can call me ‘OUI’). I come from Vientiane province, Lao PDR. I graduated from the National University of Laos (NUOL) with a bachelor degree in 2014. After completing my undergraduate study, I worked at the Department of Energy Policy and Planning, Ministry of Energy and Mine. In 2018, I achieved scholarship from the Master Program for Youth Talents on Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation (LMC Program). Now I am studying Environmental Science and Engineering at the College of Environment at Hohai University (HHU) and will graduate this year.
I applied for the major of Environmental Engineering because I was engaged in the environmental engineering and resettlement work before. The subjects and comprehensive courses required in my curriculum were related to environment science and engineering as well. Through group discussion, presentations, assignments, and Chinese language learning, I have advanced myself with knowledge and skills.
My supervisor, Dr. Zhao Zhenhua, is very responsible and helpful. We met many times in China last year. With his guidance, I focused my research field on “Investigating Livelihood Impact of Dam-forced Resettlement in Lao PDR”. Dr. Zhao Zhenhua gave me extra tasks and information to help me in my research and cared me a lot in my self-advancement.
In the College of Environment, Hohai University, I completed all required courses, with a total of 34 credits and an average score of 85.14. I participated in-class and out-class learning such as environmental planning, water pollution, ground water pollution and environmental engineering related areas during my study. Particularly, in accordance with the prescribed requirements, I participated in many important events, including the China-ASEAN Countries Training Program on Flood Control and Drought Relief Technology, China-ASEAN Countries Workshop on Flood Control, Drought Relief and Integrated Water Resources Management, and International Leadership Training Program for Young Professionals in Water Resources Management in China and Laos respectively. Meanwhile, I had the privilege of volunteering at the international office of Hohai University, which benefited my study and enriched my experience.
