Ms. Li Junyu: All for International Students amid COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic broke out at the beginning of 2020 badly affecting everyone’s plan for the Spring Festival vacation. Since then under the guidance of the university authority, we, as the staff of the university’s International School, have worked day and night to check round after round the information of the overseas students, think about what they are thinking, worry about what they are worrying, help solve their practical difficulties.. Considering that most of the students from the Master Program for Youth Talent on Lancang-Mekong Water Resource Cooperation (LMC Program) could return to their own countries during the Spring Festival, we repeatedly reminded them of paying attention to personal protection.

According to the university’s overall education arrangement of learning online from home,we did a lot of preparation before the classes began, overcame many difficulties. On February 17,in the first week of our teaching calendar we officially started our online teaching program and launched the online courses for international students. With the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, our online teaching program has been timely updated. We communicated with relevant teachers and put two National Brand Courses and 28 Provincial Brand Courses on the internet timely. They were open to the whole society for free and made Studying at Hohai more attactive.

Considering time differences, network connectivity and other problems, we actively mobilize all relevant resources and helped teachers and students to use all available approaches to ensure the online teaching program going smoothly. In the whole year of 2020, a total of 257 online courses were offered to LMC Program students. In order to fulfill the demands of scientific research and defense for graduation, we contacted and coordinated with each department within the university and straightened out working procedures. We prepared and translated documents such as the Access Guide to On-campus Electronic Resources, the Postgraduate Online Defense Process and Instructions, and distributed them to international students both at home and abroad.

We provided enthusiastic services and guided students to stay in their places to continue scientific research and study, so as to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, all of the first batch of students from the LMC Program graduated smoothly and three of which graduated one year ahead of schedule with excellent performance.
