To further strengthen the cooperation and exchange among the Mekong countries in the field of water resources, General Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design (GIWP) and China Water Resources Beifang Investigation, Design and Research Co., Ltd. (BIDR) successfully held three terms of "Workshop on Technical Standards for Water Conservancy and Hydropower" from 2018 to 2019, more than 70 officials and technicians in water administration from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries came to China for technical exchange and training.
The workshop is the first project implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources under Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism. The theme of the workshops covered flood control, dam and reservoir. The workshop is carried out by means of expert teaching, technical exchange, field investigation, etc. The main contents include the introduction to China's water conservancy and hydropower standard system, the engineering practice of China's water conservancy and hydropower standard system in oversea projects, and the introduction of Tianjin's urban flood control system. The participants were invited to visit the Three Gorges water control project, Tianjin Haihe River Basin flood prevention management project, Landscape project of Tianjin Haihe River Basin, Beijing Ming Tombs Pumped Storage Power Station, Beijing Shunyi High Efficiency Water Conservation Irrigation Project. The workshop promoted the technical exchange of water conservancy projects in Lancang-Mekong countries, built a platform for sharing experience and exploring ideas, laid solid foundation for jointly promoting cooperation among LMC countries in the water sector, and has won the unanimous praise from the .
