Company Profile

Founded in 1933, under the Ministry of Water Resources of the People's Republic of China, the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research ( IWHR ) is a national public welfare scientific research institution engaged in water resources and hydropower scientific research. Over 60 years of evolution since its establishment in 1958, IWHR has now become the largest comprehensive research institute at the top level in the field of water resources and hydroelectric power in China. At present, IWHR has over 1,300 staff members, 13 research departments and 32 laboratories. The institute covers an area of 480,000 m2. The institute has established extensive exchanges and cooperation with nearly one hundred foreign research institutions, prestigious universities, academic communities and international organizations.

Participate Situation

Since 2017, IWHR has actively participated in the Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation and has been taking  the lead in implementing several Lancang-Mekong Cooperation projects, IWHR held LMC Workshop on Water Resources Management and Food Security, China-Mekong Advanced Technology Exchange Meeting on Integrated Watershed Management, ASEAN Youth Exchange, the Belt and Road Forum on Irrigation and Drainage Development and Sci-Tech Innovation. Lao Minister of Natural Resources and Environment visits IWHR for water resources and hydropower cooperation in 2017. IWHR has established health cooperative relations with Mekong countries such as Cambodia, Thailand and Laos, participated in the dam safety evaluation of Kamchay hydropower station in Cambodia and the safe water supply project implemented in Laos. We hope to deepen cooperation, maintain information communication and strengthen cooperation with our partners in water resources management in the Lancang-Mekong basin.
