Company Profile

The Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI), set up in 1935, originally called Central Hydraulic Research Institute, is the oldest of its kind in China. The Institute was designated by the Chinese Government as one of the national non-profit research institutions for public service in 2001. NHRI is a multipurpose national hydraulic research complex, mainly dedicated to basic research, applied research and technological development, and undertaking directional, principal and comprehensive researches for water conservancy, hydroelectric power and waterway transportation projects as well as researches on soft science and macro decision making. At the same time, the Institute acts as the Dam Safety Management Center (Sluice Safety Management Center), the Research Center for Climate Change, the Engineering Quality Inspection Center and the Nanjing Engineering Measurement Examination Center of the Ministry of Water Resources.

Participate Situation

Led by Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI) and Dam Safety Management Center (DSMC) of the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources, six Lancang-Mekong countries jointly implemented a batch of projects including Technical Sharing and Capacity Building on Hydropower and Dam Safety Management, Safety Evaluation Action Plan, Construction and Demonstration of Dam Safety Supporting System, Dam Safety Information Management System, etc. Focusing on enhancing the capacity of dam safety management in the Lancang-Mekong region, the joint research on dam safety policies, regulations and standards, personnel training as well as technical demonstration have been carried out. Regional cooperation and technical demonstration will be further carried out in the fields of dam projects planning and design, dam construction quality guarantee and dam safety operation, to establish regional centers on dam safety management, and to gradually carry out the practical drills of dam flood control and emergency rescue, thus improving the emergency management capacity of dam safety operators in Mekong countries.
