A stronger tie has been created among the six Lancang-Mekong countries by sharing hydrological information of the river. For 19 years in a row, China has been providing flood-season hydrological data for free to the MRC and its member countries and helping them formulate plans for flood prevention and drought mitigation. Since the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism was launched, China has sent emergency notifications on major changes in outflow of Jinghong hydro-power plant for many times. To implement the leader’s consensus reached at the Third Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leader’s Meeting, on the basis of providing hydrological information during the flood season to the Mekong countries and the Mekong Committee for 19 consecutive years, China has expanded the scope of hydrological information sharing from the flood season to the whole year. The six countries also reached a consensus on jointly building the Lancang-Mekong water resources information sharing platform and signed the Intent Letter on the construction of the Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation information sharing platform. The Chinese side has constructed in advance and opened the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Information Sharing Platform Website at the end of November 2020.
