The China’s Ministry of Water Resources and the Mekong River Commission organized a joint research of “Joint Observation and Evaluation of the Emergency Water Supplement from China to the Mekong River”. The joint research objectively evaluated the positive role of emergency water replenishment in alleviating the drought in downstream countries.
The China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), the Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS), and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) jointly conducted a research of Hydrological Impacts of the Lancang Hydropower Cascade on Downstream Extreme Events. The result showed that Lancang cascade reservoirs play a positive role in coping with extreme drought of the Mekong River.
The China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR) in cooperation with experts from the five Mekong countries, launched a research of “Joint Assessment on Flood Prevention and Drought Relief in Mekong River Basin”.
