In the past five years, the six member countries have implemented a number of projects benefiting the people’s livelihood, focusing on river basin planning, information-based construction of water resources, water conservancy standards and regulations, flood and drought disaster prevention, green development of hydropower and dam safety, which have brought tangible benefits to the local people.
The project is an important part of the Memorandum of Understanding on China-Laos Water Project Cooperation signed by the leaders of China and Laos in 2017. The project was jointly carried out by China and Laos to build a central station integrating water resources information database, computer network, conference display system and 25 automatic monitoring stations.

The project contains jointly preparing technical documents for Lancang-Mekong countries, such as recommendations on dam safety evaluation methods; organizing training course on dam safety evaluation; carrying out pilot projects on detection of potential dam defects and evaluation of dam safety on 6 dams in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam; carrying out preliminary work of dam safety evaluation; conducting technical training to enhance the capacity of dam safety management personnel on on-site detection and nondestructive detection technology application for latent defects.

The project carries out typical regional technology promotion and demonstration in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar to improve the construction and management capacity of local rural water supply projects and provide typical experience and technical support for rural water supply security in the Lancang-Mekong region.

The project has completed the Nam Li River Basin comprehensive management implementation plan. Based on the plan, a series of integrated management measurements of purification of drinking water source, prevention of soil and water loss, and consolidation and improvement of flash flood disaster prevention system have been carried out in a demonstration village within the small basin for Laos.The results of this project helped reduce the loss of natural disasters, improve the well-being of residents and offer references to balance the ecological environmental protection and economic development for Laos, and has great significance for promoting the water resources cooperation among the Lancang-Mekong countries.
