Scientifically scheduling the Lancang River cascade hydropower stations to reduce downstream flood control pressure

According to information provided by Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd., affected by extreme weather, the main flood season in the Lancang River basin has seen a significant decrease in water inflow by more than 40% since August. However, in early September, influenced by Typhoon Yagi the downstream area of the Lancang River and the Mekong River basin experienced continuous heavy rain, leading to a sharp increase in flood control pressure along the Mekong River.

To leverage the regulation role of cascade reserviors on the Lancang River and alleviate the flood control pressure downstream, the power generation load of the Jinghong Hydropower Station has recently been reduced to only one-third of its rated installed capacity. The outflow has been reduced from 1,800 cubic meters per second at the beginning of September to 1,060 cubic meters per second, a decrease of 70% compared to the multi-year average flow rate.

Considering the recent meteorological forecast information, the inflow of the Lancang River is expected to remain relatively stable, and the Jinghong Hydropower Station will not discharge flood. The outflow is likely to be maintained at the current level.
